Baby Bean still has no name, they were convinced they were having a boy! Yesterday it had been whittled down to three choices, hopefully today it will be announced. Daughter is much brighter than I anticipated. I was worried because she had really not wanted a section, she wanted to be out of hospital ASAP and she enjoys long walks, but I think she realises that she gave it her all and that there was really only the one option in the end. Baby Bean is a model baby, at the moment, as long as she is fed when she wants she is happy to lie and look around or sleep, in her crib! They may be coming home today so I have got loads to do as they are going to stay here for the first few days. Ooh, a new baby in the house, so exciting, just hope that Jack continues to ignore her and isn't put out by all the cuddles she gets, there will be plenty of people around so he shouldn't lack love and attention.
Dangerous visitors
Daughter and Baby, partner as well, have been back for 24 hours now. Baby Bean is still being a little treasure, her Mummy managed 6 hours sleep last night, her Daddy managed nearly 12, hints have been dropped! The visitors started today though, Jack and his Mummy, friend, other Grandparents, another friend, and still to arrive oldest friend and brother. Daughter had been beginning to feel much better, but the entertaining is starting to take it's toll, she has now been ordered to lie on the sofa, and NOT move. Earlier on, between the rain, I dug the hole for the placenta, and then daughter and I took a slow walk down the garden and buried it next to Jack's. As I said 'thankyou' for all it's hard work and doing a good job, daughter commented that it had done too good a job, if it hadn't been quite so efficient Baby Bean wouldn't have grown so much and she wouldn't have needed a section. Hubby was delighted to see the back of it, he had developed an aversion to opening the fridge in case it had escaped it's bag and was just sitting there. I was so cross this morning when I saw the rain, I had been given permission to take Baby Bean out for her first walk, I had my route all planned for maximum liklihood of meeting people.
Jack has decided that the best reaction to his cousin is to ignore her. He does give the game away though when she cries, his little face looks all concerned, and he looks around the room to see who is going to lay claim to this little thing. I might abandon home tomorrow, Jack and his Mummy are coming round, with a 6 week old baby, for the day, hopefully she will bring the double buggy and we can just take them out.
Sorry, here's another piccy!
Not good
I've just had some horrid news about one of my babies. I visited Mum and baby on Tuesday and felt slight concern about babe. I weighed him, he had lost some weight, but it was within expectation. He was 7 days old, but he was still passing green poo, he was jaundiced, but Mum felt his colour was improving and Mum reported that he was quite sleepy. There was nothing really concrete, but lots of little things made me unsettled. I knew that if I refered him to the paeds with this history I would be told not to worry, so I noted my concerns and asked my colleague to visit two days later, re-weigh him, and see if his general condition had changed.
Tonoight my colleague phoned to report that she had gone round there, his weight was static, he was still sleepy, and still passing green stools. She referred him in and the paeds put him on kids ward to observe overnight. Today he has been sent to NICU, and tomorrow he is being sent to our regional cardiac unit, they are querying cardio-myopathy. I feel so sorry for this family, what they must be going through is unimaginable, they had come home from hospital with a healthy baby, and they are now waiting to hear how poorly he is. My prayers are with them.
Family Day
Last night Great-Aunt Matilda and Great-Uncle Ian came round to view Amy, they were bringers of a cute, pink lullaby bear for baby, and a bottle of champagne for the proud parents (by secondary intent for Amy), this was of course shared with the aged ones as well!! Today all the immediate relations, Uncles, Aunts, Jack, are arriving to celebrate the new addition to the fold. Roast dinner and alcohol are at the top of the menu.
Amy is still being a good baby. Waking once during the night and having her 'I'm not going to sleep' time in the evening. Nasty midwife (!) came round today and stuck a pin in her foot, what a meanie, and then weighed her, she has lost 1oz, pretty good going really. They may decamp tomorrow to their own house, I will miss them, it's been so lovely having a new little family living with us. Daughter is recovering well, every day she is so much more mobile, she can even laugh now without it ending in tears.
The family welcome meal was a success, Amy is now officially part of the brood. Jack and Amy met on the sofa for the first time, looking rather like a football hooligan in his England top he behaved like the perfect gent, until she started crying, when he decided the remedy would be to give her a kiss which involved throwing himself on top of her, never before have so many people retrieved him from a loving gesture.
Amy, et al. are all still here. They were due to return home yesterday but Daddy, who had been made redundant two weeks ago, was offered a short-term job starting immediately so it was decided that they would stay until Friday. The wonderful baby, who was sleeping really well, was changed during Sunday night for a far more typical model. Although looking exactly the same, this newborn version feeds two hourly and only wants to sleep if she is being cuddled or being pushed in a pram. This played right into my hands yesterday, Nanny was a true trooper and took Amy out for her first walk, oh the hardship of being a Nanny
Alone again.........
Today has been Hubby's and mine first day by ourselves for two weeks, well, that's not entirely true 'cos Jack and his Mummy came round for a couple of hours this afternoon. Amy and her Mummy and Daddy went home yesterday, on my way past this morning I stuck my head in to make sure all was well (and for a cuddle) and they seem to be doing just fine. Things had looked a bit hairy on Wednesday night, Amy was inconsolable until 2.30 am, definitely tummy ache. We put it down to her Mummy having eaten strawberries on Tuesday, 'Rubbish' said the Health Visitor, 'nothing you eat gets passed via your milk to the baby'. Unfortunately I was at work when this, and several other gems were conveyed to daughter. I kept my counsel on her words of wisdom until I could pass them by the Health Visitor I work alongside, I thought that perhaps this was the new thinking, and that it hadn't filtered through to me. Apparently the Health Visitor I work with is unaware of this development as well, mmm, I wonder who's right?
I tackled the garden today. It is looking wonderously lush at the moment, but on close inspection a lot of the greenery is weed. My patio set, a month old, is returning to Argos on Wednesday. When I got home on Thursday Hubby pointed out that the table was looking bowed. It was, slightly, but not enough to make me pick up the phone to customer services. When I looked at it after work yesterday there was a new development, the slats had started sticking up, that did result in a phone call. I have to say that Argos were very good though, they are exchanging it on Wednesday, just hope the new one is happy with it's shape.
Missed the start of BB last night as we were out currying. When I went to bed I watched 10 minutes of the live feed, some truely annoying, ?male, 20 something, half wit, was talking absolute rubbish non-stop, he gets my vote to go. There were also two girls, nearly wearing dressing gowns, one was obsessed with displaying her boobs, whilst appearing not to - if you're trying to make it seem like you don't know they are falling out, don't keep looking down at them!
