Kittens

Friday evening I phoned Cats Protection, and had a long, weepy chat with the lady. I was alright until she told me that the two kittens she had were black and black and white, the colours of the cats who died because of our fire. I saw this as a 'sign' that I was meant to have them, she started crying because one of her horses had died that morning. Anyway, Saturday morning saw me down at the local rescue centre and meeting Madge and Flo ( possiblae names). The lady aged them at 10 weeks, I think they are more like 12 -14 weeks, but who cares, they need me. They had only been 'recovered' 4 days before from a garden where they had been living with their feral Mum, so they are not used to humans, or living indoors. The CPL woman said they would be a challenge, need attention ++, to show them how to socialise with humans. They are very timid, spending the whole time squashed together in a tiny space. Madge, the black and white one, will tolerate me picking her up and stroking her, but Flo is far more eager to escape my attentions and spends the whole time whilst in my arms very tense, ears back, and claws out. All of yesterday they ignored their food and litter tray so when we went to bed I was expecting to come down this morning and find damp, dirty areas somewhere. Instead I was woken at about 4am by a crash so down I came to investigate. There was Flo, on the Welsh Dresser, whilst the table lamp and a candle holder were on the floor. The second she saw me off she went, virtually running round the walls, scattering bric-a-brac as she went. Having retrieved everything I noticed that all the cat food had been eaten, and they had used the litter tray, they may not be social, but at least they are clean and not starving. Hubby was the first up this morning and be was greeted by my orchid plant, and lily flowers on the floor, being ignorant in these matters he told me that the kittens had broken all the flowers off my plant, obviously he's not that observant either.

Hide and Seek

Quick update.

Flo remains very timid, but has not dug her claws in at all today. I think she purred, might have been a prolonged tremble.

Madge (aka Mildred) has disappeared twice today. First time I panicked, emptied a full washing machine all over the floor, not sure how I thought she had got in there, but it seemed logical at the time. Eventually found her in the larder, behind the spuds. Second time it was dark so just switched off all the lights and shone a torch in all possible hidey holes, behind the shoe-rack and the pipes to the boiler.

Made myself laugh with this piece of trivia.
