The low down on my day
Today has been a 'good day'. Finished work early. Hush, yes, an NHS employee actually arrived home before they should have. I don't feel guilty, I feel strangely exuberant. Sunny weather so got out the lawnmower, reliable starting, it says on the engine lid. Why didn't it start at all then? Came in, phoned up lovely lawnmowery man (out of Yellow Pages) and arranged for him to service etc it. 10 days turnaround was his estimate, I said to him that by then I would be hacking my way around the garden so he offered to drop me one round for the day. Lovely man No.1. One of my E-Bay purchases arrived, I don't know if I've mentioned it but I am hooked on this auction site, an air filter - new. Wretched thing would only work if I taped the door closed, so I E-Mailed the vendor telling him of my problem. His response was that I should check that the filter was installed correctly, if that didn't solve it tell him. So I did, but also said I was reluctant to return it due to postage costs, so I thought I would see if keeping the door shut made it remember what it should do. Old Waltiboy mailed back immediately and said no, keep this one and he will send me out a new one. How wonderful is this? Lovely man No.2.
Pregnant one came round, she's given up work now so visits are plentiful! She kindly brought the cot round, still in packaging, for me to store until needed. Oh good, my dining room is never going to get sorted at this rate. (For dining-room read storage/junk room). We ran through once again what will happen when B Day arrives, she hopes to have the baby here, and then I had a quick prod of the incubating one. Now, if I hadn't learnt my lesson before, I would have said, " I can't feel his head". I've stopped saying that though because for some reason it alarmed pregnant ladies, so instead I said, "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, he's low". I can say that to my daughter, I'm a little, not much, less verbose with my patients. She's only 35+ weeks, at this rate, by the end he'll be hanging out, and her pelvic floor will be shot to pieces. Preached the benefits of doing pelvic floor exercises - again, and told he she can't have baby early because the other midwife is on holiday. When has she ever listened to me though?

(7.4.04 19:34) How do these pelvic floor exercises (i guess they're also called Kegels) help labour/delivery?? |
|
(7.4.04 19:48) The pelvic floor exercises are to help strengthen the pelvic floor (yes they are Kegels). The point of them is not to help labour or delivery but to try to prevent urine leakage problems afterwards. Even if you don't have any problems after delivery it's in later life that stress incontinence shows itself. If you have faithfully done your pelvic floor exercises then you are far less likely to experience it. C.Section is no guarantee against problems with the muscles down there (pelvic floor) they are finding that the strain happens during the last weeks of pregnancy, not just during birth. Hope that helps. |
