Ouch

New Years Day I decided I couldn't put of the leaf-clearing any longer. Half my lawn now looks green, if eldest daughter had not appeared all my lawn would look wonderful, and I would possibly be be completely immobile - still. Since my gardening exploits I have been adopting various glamorous poses, most of which involve lying flat on the floor with my legs supported on any adjacent furniture, I am calling it 'the standed beetle look'. As my foray into the world of back-pain happened over the holiday period I took it upon my self to self-medicate with any prescription drugs I could lay my hands on, a pharmacist would doubtless be horrified, but they did sedate me sufficiently to reduce the amount a self-pity I was indulging in, and stopped Hubby from transporting me, in his van, to the nearest hospital which catered for both spinal injuries and hysteria. I have to say that the 'caring' profession I work for were magnificent in their sympathy, particularly in their wishes for a speedy recovery, 'will you be OK for your on-call tonight?' Having spent two days in bed I called the Doc's for an appointment, and luck was on my side, I got one. A G.P I had never heard of, but in my Valium induced world I deciced that I could possibly divorce Hubby and marry this God of the medical profession. I have little recollection of the consultation, I know I smiled a lot, and groaned when he asked me to demonstrate my range of movements, but I did float out of the surgery with a prescription for more valium, pain-relief and a note telling work that they would not be seeing me until he wanted them to.

Eldest daughter came round last night and told me I looked as if I was in labour, something to do with the kneeling on all fours I suspect. She has now reached the worrying stage in her pregnancy so we listened to Baby Bean, apparently it's a girl 'cos her heartbeat was over 140bpm, what absolute rubbish that old wives tale is, BB was moving around like a manic kitten at the time so of course it's heartbeat is going to be high. Oh well, she has a 50% chance of being right.

Jack et famille return from Andorra c'est soir. I only hope that he is not too disappointed that Naughty Nanny will be Dopey Nanny. It will be lovely to see him again, especially as he has grown his first tooth whilst away.

sorry to hear about the back pain. Had a spot of Spodulosis a few years back and now sympathise with sufferers of back pain instead of smirking.
Is it worth seeing a chiropractor? The angels at the local hospital's phisio dept fixed me up. Strabge calasthenics to increase my range and "nerve length"(?) and stern warnings about posture.
I still do the occasional bout of bending and arm waving when I have a twinge. The kids think it's funny and join in (blessm)
Best wishes and e-hugs

ouch! I can almost feel your pain. Hope you feel 100% better soon. I remember washing the carpets at home a few weeks ago, same position as you, and the next day, I could not move.
Enjoy your sedated time off work =)

Raking leaves? Isn't that what husbands are for?

Very good point - does hubby take no pride in the garden? lol
Hope you're feeling better soon.

Am I to take it that your attempts at forsaking the dreaded weed have driven you to random medication? Naughty Nanny.

All you need now is for hubby's back to throw itself out (a not unheard of thing Dear readers) and there will be the two of you doing the dying fly. Ah well, Jack will find it hilarious...just before he sinks his solitary tooth into Nanny's leg whilst she's lying defenceless.

Get well soon you looney! :-)

To all of you lovely people, thankyou for your kind wishes.
Derby Dave - I avoid chiropractors ever since Hubby ended up in National Orthopaedic for surgery after one of them manipulated his back.
MJ - I'm enjoying my sedated time, perhaps too much
Princess - I use exercise balls for teaching active birth but at the moment the effort involved in sitting on one is impossible! Great to lean over though.
Stroppy and Glowstars - Hubby is not allowed near the garden as he is a liability.
Ian - My medication is strictly on prescription now. Thank heavens Hubby's back is holding out, if that gives up then an emergency call will go out!

I suppose he was a bit unkind to your clems but wht damage could he possibly do with a rake and clear instructions? You just need to retrain hubby and make sure he shows no initiative in gardening matters just follows orders - for you back's sake.

Stroppy - You were right, my clems do seem to have recovered, but I still will never trust him in my garden again! A couple of my trees need chainsaw action so I have purchased a can of fluorescent paint to mark exactly where he is to cut them.
