It's now 12 hours since I took my last Valium. This is a major improvement, particularly in the reasoning department! Still popping my trustworthy friend Voltarol but I don't feel they affect my mental faculties to quite the same degree. For the last couple of days I have been taking short ambles round the local shops, accompanied, and my decision to attempt life without 'mothers little helpers' came when youngest daughter apologised, on two seperate occassions, to assistants for my behaviour. She was concerned that they may have thought I was 'high'. Yesterday Hubby was my escort and he was mortified when I asked a lovely check-out girl in Iceland where she had had her tattoo done. It was a really pretty, pastel flower and I thought that it would look lovely on some part of my anatomy.

When we got home we were having a discussion about my birthday pressie, I decided I wanted a new patio. Our present one needs re-doing and I am reluctant now to attempt doing it, I laid the last one, but that was five years ago when my body accepted readily any demands I placed upon it. So I said that I would like someone to be employed to do it (Hubby also has a delicate back). The next thing I knew was that he was saying my pressie could be putting money towards a new car. I flipped. I shouted, and then disolved into such a pit of self-pity that Australia was only a few miles away. I think he got the message though. I have to have a car for work, it is a stipulation of my job, and as such it shouldn't be part of my birthday pressie.

Now I need your help. Has anyone got a Mothercare Steam Steriliser? Yes, I am already collecting for the advent of Grandchild number 2. I was given one, but without the instruction book (not the Grandchild, the steriliser) so I don't know how much water to put in it. If anyone knows the answer please let me know.

Jack is back. The stair gate is up, the cats bowls have been relegated to a place of safety, and the fireguard is in position. I had a really good buy the other day, a virtually new Mama'a and Papa's highchair for Ģ15. We had been using a really handy booster seat but meal times had become a truly messy affair and so I decided that self-containment of foodstuff was now a priority. A tandem pushchair is next on my list, and a potty. He always fills his nappy at the same time so I'm going to try and avoid that chore by plonking him on a receptacle, it worked with his Auntie so hopefully is will do the trick with him.

Hope you need to take less and less valium as time passes =) A pastel tattoo? yes, why donīt you have one tattoo like that done? =P
I agree, if you need a car for work, then a new car is not a pressie. The patio is a much better choice, and if you have it made, your back will be so thankful!
have a good, valium-free week!

I started reading "putting money towards" and thought - romantic holiday somewhere hot or spa week-end with daughters. It's the Y chromosome - does it everytime.
Ah well at least he asked you what you wanted and didn't just go down to homebase to get you a new chainsaw.

At least you have the excuse of "being medicated" as a reason why people feel they ought to apologise for your behaviour. No-one seems to have a satisfactory explanation for some of the things I get up to.

BTW - a patio is almost as unglamorous as a chainsaw for a present. Couldn't you go for something more birthdayish like a night out and some clothes to go with it?

watch out the potty thing upsets health visitors.... wicked women who do their best to undermine the self confidence of any mother and will tellyou that everything your mum does or says in wrong. I belive in pottys my 7 and 11 year old were done no harm by sitting on one. (place infront of the tv on a large plastic mat, it makes the telebubies act like a bowel regulator)

I've got a mothercare microwave steriliser - but to be honest I never read instructions and take a punt on the amount of water every time. Have you looked on the website for info?? One of my mummy friends is bound to have one - I'll ask next time I see them... xx

Princess - Daughter is seeing the HV this afternoon, for his 8 month assessment, so if you see black clouds and hear load tuts from the West, you'll know she told her!
JoJo - Jacks Mum has microwave steriliser, wonderful thing, but she stopped sterilising things when he was 6mths. Found out Mothercare steam one needs 60mls water. Hubby took me to Mothercare and I read the instructions. Also dispensed advice to confused looking couple about how much better microwave ones are, that was when Hubby dragged me out!

Valium makes my world go fuzzy!!
My Mum has got the Tommy Tippee micro steriliser and I've got the full size avent sterilizer. They use about the same amount-about 100 mls. Hope this helps xx

Minks - 'Fuzzy' is a good description of how I was. 'couldn't care a less' was another one. Daughters found my behaviour highly amusing as I was having a hard time not talking even more drivel than usual.
Thanks for the info on sterilisers
