Any car buffs?

It seems like ages since I last poured my thoughts out to my keyboard, two reasons, firstly Hubby and I have been away to Bude, Cornwall with friends celebrating best friends 'all clear' from her Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, and boy did we celebrate. We visited some wonderful places, Clovelly is definitely worth a visit. We had been forewarned by a local that you have to pay to go into the village, unless you visit late in the day, so we took his advice and are doubly grateful as it also meant that all those nasty tourists had left and we could enjoy a much needed bevvy in the pub by the small harbour. We also sampled Rick Stein's bistro hospitality, I am not a food buff, am not that keen on fish dishes but have to admit that it was a wonderful evening in an extremely pleasant environment, and the wine wasn't bad either.

The second reason I have been strangely reticent is that I was struck down by a nasty bug which not only caused my throat to swell up but also affected my eyes, much mega puffiness, soreness, and watering making focusing on anything quite difficult. I felt so c**p anyway that blogging was the last thing on my mind, bed was the most appropriate place to be. Shame really because it was also my birthday, no celebrating on the day but the usual family meal to come on Easter Sunday.

Daughter who is home to the twins has, fingers crossed, sold her house and has had an offer accepted on one which will provide more space. Now she is ruminating on what car can accomodate three child seats in the back, any suggestions? Nothing too large, or expensive. She had another scan last week and saw the fetal medicine consultant this week. All is well at the moment, they are going to scan the babies every two weeks to check nothing untoward is going on and a detailed cardiac scan has been booked for a months time as the consultant told us that twins have a higher risk of cardiac abnormality, I've been searching for info about this but havn't found any, yet. Twins, such an exciting concept but when you get down to the nitty gritty there are an awful lot of potential problems just during the pregnancy, let alone caring for them when they are born.

Over here I have a Nissan Quest (people carrier thing). Sliding doors which you can control from a key fob make a huge difference when you have your hands full with car seats/ newborns and I would recommend these. Even though booster seats are suppsed to take less room I have a hassle if I have 3 all together as the kids can't fasten themselves in properly with the other seats choc a bloc. Test drive with the car seats and a child or two (leg room with the car seats in) is a safe bet. My friend with 3 1/2 kids has a Sharran (?) and is happy with the space.

Poor you! Feeling all better now, I hope?

We too have a people carrier. A Dodge Grand Caravan. It's just the right height for getting the kiddies in. No straining your back! And lots of room.

Hope you're getting over the dreaded lurgy.

I've got a Renault Grand Scenic, which has 7 seats, mostly we leave the back 2 folded into the floor as the wheelchair fits then without having to take the wheels off it. I feel very lucky to have it - it's a Motability car, would never have been able to afford anything as nice and as comfortable without Motability.

The doors seem to me to open pretty wide, though your daughter would need to check that out - if possible take car seats along when going to view to see how easy to get them in and out.

From my point of view I like the more "sit up straight" position of the seats (have back probs), plus I no longer clout my head in exactly the same spot getting in and out of the car. :-)

There's a 5 seat version too. But we decided on the 7 seater so we could take the aged parents and our daughters out for meals occasionally. I think we've only used all 7 seats about 3 times so far though.

It's a lovely comfy car, and the petrol consumption isn't too horrendous, though we do much better on that in the summer when we tend to do more long runs.

Husband loves it too - he's more of a car person than I am. ;-)

Glad to hear the twins are doing fine, if they are due in August your daughter must be about 4/5 months gone now!
Try not to worry too much about potential problems. I saw the sweetest thing the other day, 90 year old twin ladies! Dressed identically with identical perms, hunched backs and walking sticks, walking arm in arm. Twins have been being born for a long time, these ladies obviously turned out fine and just think how little medical help there would have been 90 years ago, compared to all the help available now

Happy birthday and Easter! Sorry to read that you've not been to well. I hope that you are feeling better and making the most of this glorious weather.
I've never been much of a car buff. Nowadays I don't enjoy driving anyway and just look for economy and reliability.
Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Have passes the suggestions re. cars on to daughter, thank you!

Della - I know, there are loads of twins born without problems. It's just the fact that sister developed the twin to twin problem and lost both the babies, close to home really. We are all just waiting for the 20 week scans and then we will relax.........slightly!

Flighty - Have a wonderful Easter break. Hubby full of seeing 2 F14s taking off the other day, I can feel an air show coming on, Jack will love it.

I have my fingers crossed and hope that all will be fine at the scan
